This is the third and final installment for my 3 quote challenge. Feel free to check out #3 and #2 if you missed them.

Today’s nominee: Zanthee

Today’s quote:

“Whatever we focus on tends to expand.”

– Author unknown.

Despite my inability to source whoever said this first, this quote has proven true for me time and time again. During bouts of self-pity, when my mind is occupied with all the wrongs done to me, things I’m lacking, or the difficulties of my present circumstances, life seems to get worse. And fast.

Yet, when I spend time thanking God for all the blessings I have in my life, I find I am repeatedly showered with more. To a remarkable extent.

Too many people in this world pride themselves on playing devil’s advocate and searching for reasons to doubt, or arguments that state something cannot be done. I can’t even count the number of times throughout my life I’ve accomplished something that at one point in time seemed damn-near impossible. And whenever I do, I find the skeptics have already dropped their previous assertions, and are eagerly packing new worries to hurl. For me, true faith is realized once it isĀ  properly distinguished from common misinterpretations. Amazing accomplishments don’t occur merely because you believe that they will. Amazing accomplishments occur because you focus on what you must do to allow them to occur.

Thanks again to Jacqueline for nominating me for this award.

Let the Tree Grow

Tired sobs run through my head, nose congested feel like dread.

Tomorrow marks a big day for me, if tomorrow sparks then fire springs.

Yet right now I feel like sighing, so damn tired, so long been trying.

Can’t speak too much of things unsaid, can’t think too much just want my bed.

No more pain in sleep at night, no more turning sleepless nights.

I hope to God I move somewhere, I hope so badly that fruit will bear.

Moving on from living dreams, achieving them is the next best thing.

An Overlooked Passage

There is a passage in the bible where Jesus feeds five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish.

The food appears to be the same before and after it is raised up to God. There are no additional loaves of bread, and nothing magical happens. So how can we understand this?

The bread is ordinary bread. A person is an ordinary person. We have problems, fears, worries and doubts. We have faced terrible events in our lives that still bother us today.

When you are far from God, in your natural state, all these problems weigh you down. They all seem to be purposeless, random events and make you into a limited being. For instance, because of what happened to you in your past, the future is now bleak.

When you give yourself to God completely, he takes all you have and makes use of it. Your prior struggles help others to Him, your defects suddenly have a purpose. He takes every piece of you and uses it to feed his cause, to feed others. You become the bread that is enough to fill others with the Spirit of God and you will never run thin doing it.

What you have is already enough to serve God’s purpose. He does not need you to become perfect before He can work through you. That is the point – what is given to God will be used by God. It is not your job to create a new self, it is your job to give your being to him. And even then, you will on the outset appear the same, your being will remain the same, but the Spirit will guide you through your work.

It is each man’s choice to keep himself or to give himself to God.

A Family

Marriage isn’t easy, and it surely hardly shines,

Marriage must be tricky, to say it’s always fine.

What is the point of simplicity, when famous characters rule,

What good is integrity, when obnoxiousness is cool.

What’s the point of trying, when the money is all gone.

What’s the point of going, when the tests come all the time.

Why go on in knowing, your’s is never quite the best,

What good is the showing, when you’re nothing like the rest.

The work is hard and lasting, and developing is strange,

The labor is persisting, that never seems to change.

But when your time is through, and its time to finish the ride,

How beautiful your life looks, when you kept your eyes in line.

For from the children come hope, and from the children come love,

and from the children come another, family for the thick of time.

And then come some more children, who think grand dad’s the best,

And then come easy smiles, and bad times remembered less.

For when you have a marriage, and when you have some kids,

Humanity keeps on growing, because of all the work you did.

So one day when the day comes, surely it is true,

The generations keep on knowing, they live because of you.
